I have the vodafone protect app on my phone (Samsung Galaxy N3), that has locked the unit. It asks for a PIN number which I cannot remember. When I attempt to reset my pin on the Vodafone protect website it I an told "There is no valid account **bleep**ociated with your number’. The phone in help-line is clueless. How should I proceed?

You will need to contact our Data Call Centre on 082 155 (free call from Vodacom sim). The consultant would need to log a call to our Advanced Data Support Desk where they will be able to unlock the App and device for you, alternatively you can also visit the following link: https://protect.vodacom.co.za/Home

Try factory resettling your phone by doing the following:
This is valid for the Galaxy s4 (it might work)
Power the device off if it doesn't want to switch off remove the battery and put it back.
Press and hold the volume up, home and power button simultaneously.
You will see a funny android menu scroll up and down using the volume up and down keys.
Scroll down till you see "wipe data/factory reset".
Press the power button and let the device do the reset.
If the phone does not reboot by itself then select "reboot system now" and press the power button.
Do the same with the Galaxy Note 3
