Vodafone protect app has locked my phone

Hi all

I am in a very inconvenient situation as I am South African and currently in the UK and soon to be in Europe without any contact with my family. Now because of the Vodafone Protect lock on my Sony Xperia Z3 I have been unable to contact my family in SA for the past 3 days. I have called the customer service line whereby on their records I am not registered to have Vodafone protect on my phone and SIM card, thus that is all they were able to repeat back to me. This is impossible as Vodafone protect still locks me out of my phone even with my local Vodacom sim inserted.
I have even attempted a master reset (by pressing and holding the power button along with the volume up button simultaneously, whereby my phone vibrates 3 times and shuts down). No android logo pops up, nor does any options. The phone just switches off. When I restart my phone the Vodafone protect app continues to block me out. I believe I've even tried all possible button combinations to force a master reset with no success.
I have ran out of options and no one seems to know how to help me so that I can contact my family back in SA. I am in desperate need of help.

hi Azie, thank you for this!!! One would think call centre agents would be able to know these things.

Many frustrating hours with a Protect blocked device made me figure this one out without wiping the device! So you sorted?
